If you are looking for a pet that will be a companion, and entertain you as well, the gregarious Cockatiel may just be what you are looking for. Cockatiels love attention so if you are going to be away from home a lot you may want to consider a different type of pet The average life span of Cockatiels is said to be 6-9 years but if well cared for can live as long as 30 years, so raising Cockatiel's as a pet is a long term commitment. Cockatiel need a minimum of basic care and attention.
You will need to provide a vitamin rich complete balanced feed, plenty of fresh clean water, a clean large cage, cuttlebone, chew toys, sand perches, vitamin supplements, and plenty of bird toys since Cockatiels love to play.If you take your Cockatiel outdoors you should make sure they have a completely safe, covered, and locked aviary to protect them from predators and from escaping. With a little bit of effort you can train your Cockatiel to do tricks which will amaze you and your friends!

Things Your Cockatiel Needs
All pet birds need:
- Attention
- Bird food
- Grit
- Cuttlebone
- Aviary (safe place to fly)
- A place to scratch around on the ground
- Regular aviary, cage, or coop cleaning (at least once or twice a week).
- Regular care to prevent mite and lice infestations
What to feed your cockatiel
Cockatiels need a variety of protein and omega-3 rich foods to keep them strong, healthy, and happy. Be very careful about feeding your bird table scraps as there are some foods that are deadly toxic to them. Find out more here:
