Important Hand Feeding Tips
- Warm your baby parakeets formula before hand feeding them. Formula temperature should be between 105 and 110 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Cold formula will make your baby parakeet sick
- You can tell if your baby parakeet has had enough to eat by feeling the bird's crop located just under their breast feathers. When the crop is full it will have a full feel but not with firmness or hardness to it. Be careful not to underfeed your bird as they could starve and not be able to develop properly. Overfeeding can make them sick, tear the tender skin on the crop, and can even cause death.
- If possible it is best not to feed your baby chicks for 8 hours every night. In order to digest their food properly their crop needs to be completely emptied every 24 hours (1).
