Cat litter box and kitty litter tips
If your cat is indoors you will need a cat litter box and you will need to keep the litter box clean. Cat litter box should be scooped daily and changed at least once a week for a single cat and more often for multiple cats. Covered cat litter boxes are not recommended because they have been known to cause respiratory infections if not properly vented.
Stimulates your cats natural instincts, imagination, increases cognitive abilities and keeps them active.
What you need to know about Cat and Kitten Collars
Cats should only wear collars which can break apart if the cat gets hung on something because cats and kittens have a tendency of getting in places where their collar can easily get stuck on a branch or other things. Most veterinarians recommend that outdoor cats do not wear collars or if they do to use break away collars. In my experience, I have had a kitten and a cat in two different incidences, who actually tried to get out of their collar and got it stuck in their mouth. In the instance with the adult cat this cat was wearing a collar which was not a break away collar and in the case with the kitten it was a break away collar that got stuck and would not open.I literally had to grab them by the scruff of the neck and cut the collar off the cat (and a kitten) while they screeched, scratched and tried to get away because they were terrified. Collars can be cute but they can also be deadly so if you insist on your cat wearing a collar, make sure it is a functioning break away collar. Collar ID tag with your address and phone number on it?
If your cat gets lost, your indoor cat gets outside, or in an emergency situation where you have to leave your home and cannot find your cat and your cat has your information on the collar you will have a good chance that someone who finds your cat can contact you. However, considering the dangers associated with putting a collar on your cat you may wish to consider getting your cat a microchip from your local veterinarian.
Grooming your Cat or Kitten
(Groom your cat daily)-Brushing your cat daily will reduce the amount of cat hair on clothing, furniture and floors plus it is good for your cats skin and fur plus your cat will love the attention. Safe and effective flea and tick control
Fleas and ticks are blood sucking parasites which can make your cat sick and in severe infestations can even kill your cat so it is extremely important to get a good flea and tick control spray or powder. Foodgrade DE Diatomaceous Earth works well. Never use Permethrin on your cat this is a common ingredient in many dog flea treatments and it is deadly poisonous to cats. Only use commercial flea and tick control made for cats. Scratching post or Scratching board
Cats have a natural desire to scratch things and indoor cats will scratch furniture, door frames and other things if no scratching post is available. Nail clippers
If you have an outdoor cat you will most likely never have to trim their nails as their nails will get filed down naturally from scratching around in the dirt. Most house cats rarely need their toenails clipped but it is hand to have a pair of nail clippers just in case a nail gets broken or grows to long. Shots
Get regular shots and vaccinations from your reputable local pet vet to protect your cat from feline diseases.
Spay or neuter
If you are not planning to breed your cat it is a good idea to have the females spayed and the males neutered. Females can have kittens several times a year which means you can very quickly be overrun with cats. When female cats go in heat male cats seem to appear out of nowhere. Male cats which are not used for breeding should be neutered. Male cats tend to wander off and disappear sometimes for weeks at a time. During their excursions they could get injured or worse. I have even seen cases where a male cat returned after more than a month of being gone but when returned had turned feral and would not allow themselves to be petted. Most likely something bad happened to make them this way. Neutering a male cat will reduce or eliminate their urge to run off and it will stop them from "spraying" your furniture, clothing, or any place where they want to mark their territory.

- Try to get a cat litter box with high sides so kitty litter doesn't get scattered everywhere on your floors.
- Automatic self cleaning cat litter boxes are handy to have if you don't have time to scoop your cats litter everyday.
- Get a kitty litter which absorbs moisture and odors.
- Clumping kitty litter is a bit easier to scoop out.
- If you really can't stand the thought of scooping a cat litter box you can try potty training your cat to use the toilet. Some cats can be toilet trained and others will not.

Cats love cat toys. Indoor cats tend to like cat toys better than outdoor cats who are allowed to freely roam (probably because there is less to play with). Cats need toys to keep them entertained, develop and hone cognitive abilities and motor skills, plus cat toys helps them to be less likely to play with your things when they have their own. For example, cats love to scratch on things, it is a natural instinct, however, this is not a good thing if they are scratching your furniture and walls. Prevent cats from scratching on your stuff by getting a scratching post or making one for them. Find out more about cat toys and get get great deals too!
