Indoor & Outdoor Cat Houses
Best buys on cat houses, proper placement, inspecting, cleaning, and other great tips for your cat's house. Most domestic cats like to play and sleep in cat houses. Your outdoor cats and local feral outdoor cats, you may be feeding, will appreciate a warm place to sleep during cold weather. Indoor cats enjoy cat houses too as cats love to have their own spot, a place where they will not be bothered by other pets.

Proper Placement of Outdoor Cat houses Can Protect Them Better From the Weather
If you get a cat house, you should make sure it is protected from the elements, for example, put it under and awning, in the garage, shed or someplace where it will not get blown away or battered during high winds, storms or bad weather. The door of the cat house should be facing away from the North and facing away from the West during cold months. During warm months you will need to make sure the cat house is in a shady place with the door facing the West or North so they can get a cool breeze. It is not a good idea to leave your cats outside even with a cat house during a storm. High winds can blow over their cat house leaving them with no protection. Use heating pads, heat lamps, or hot water bottles to help keep them warm when temperatures drop below freezing (32F degrees).
You Should Frequently Move Your Cat House
You should move your cat house at least once a month during the spring and summer months. Fleas, ants, mice, and other pests could take up residence underneath or inside your cat house so it is a good idea to move it regularly. Always carefully check the roof on the inside for possible wasp nests or bees, one way to do this without getting stung by one is to use a cell phone with a selfie stick and take a picture and another way is to use a long handled mirror rather than sticking your head in there.

Inspecting Your Cat House
You should inspect your cat house every day. Make sure that it is not broken anywhere, that there are no sharp objects such as nails, screws, glass, or broken wood that your cat could get hurt on, and that there are no ants, wasp nests, or flea infestations. Cleaning Your Cat's House
You should clean your cat house with warm soapy water at least once a month. Dawn dish washing soap works well but I like to use Murphy's Oil Soap as it repels most insects. Keep kitty litter box scooped daily and changed at least one time per week.

How to Protect Your Outdoor cats and Your Cat House
It is a good idea to put your cat house in a fenced covered area especially if you live inside the city where they can easily get run over by a car, chased or killed by other animals, and to protect them from other predators that could harm them. A tin roof will protect them and their cat house from the elements, offer cool shade during the summer months, and protect them from hawks and other birds of prey that could snatch them up. If you have the cat house for feral cats you can wait until they go in and then shut and lock the door, keeping them safe at night, in the morning you can just open the door and let them out. They may be wary at first but if you put food and water inside the pen they will soon learn to go there to eat (be sure to remove any feed from the pen after they have had their fill, cat food draws predators like skunks and raccoons, this I know from experience). I live out in the country and many of my cats are outdoor barn cats who have many places to sleep, hide, and hunt at night. Most my cats love to hunt at night but will quickly cry out for help if they are in trouble. I keep cameras and monitors outdoors for security but they also help protect my outdoor animals by alerting me when there is a problem, so if they get in trouble I can come help them.
Cat's Love Cat Tree's!
Cats and kittens love to climb and play. If you have an indoor cat you may need to get a cat tree or make a cat tree to encourage your cat to get more exercise. Most cat trees have resting spots too where cats like to lounge. Cats do not usually like to just lay on the floor like dogs do, they prefer high spots probably because they feel safer and if it is cold they will go to a high place to keep warm as heat rises so high up places feel warmer to them.
