There are many myth's surrounding the red breast of the robin bird but most are quite untrue.
Appearance-The American Robin is well known for it's beautiful singing and bright red breast. The male robin has a much brighter breast and is more colorful than his female counterpart. They generally have a black head, wings, and tail with white or speckled under feathers.
Favorite Foods-Their favorite food is earthworms in the morning, berries in the afternoon, and in the winter months they migrate to area's where berries are more prominent most likely outside of their breeding grounds.
Mating Rituals-The male American robin has a profound, interesting to watch mating ritual. When robins roost they form huge flocks and create large nests. The females sit in the nests and the males stand outside the nest. The female can hatch chicks three times a year.
Life Expectancy-Although many do not survive the winter, of the one's that do the average life expectancy for a robin is 14 years if they have not been poisoned by insecticide's or other accidents (1).
