How to Breed Parakeets (Budgies)
Step by step instructions on how to sex and breed your parakeets, things you will need, and what to expect after baby parakeets hatch plus great savings on parakeet (budgie supplies).
Sexing Your Parakeets for Breeding
You will need healthy compatible male and female birds. Some experts believe that getting two or three breeding pairs together accelerates the breeding process. Sexing birds is hard to do if they are very young. Sexing adult birds is a bit easier. An adult female bird has a brown cere (nose) which is located above the beak. An adult male will have a bright blue cere (nose) above the beak.
Note: Not all males and females paired together will successfully breed. Watch how the birds interact with one another. If the male is attentive and the female likes his attentions, there is a pretty good chance they will breed. After you have a healthy, compatible pair you are ready for the next step in breeding your parakeets. See list of things you will need for breeding and what to expect when your hen starts laying eggs below (1).
