How to take care of your pet rabbit:
We have had many pet rabbits over the years and I would like to share what I have learned about them with you.
Pet rabbits are interesting to watch, and can be very loving and playful. It is best to get your pet rabbit when they are very young if you plan on petting or handling them. Some rabbits love to be petted while others do not but all rabbits prefer to hop around looking for tasty grasses and vegetables to eat.
Bedding:
Indoor and sometimes outdoor cages will need some type of bedding to keep your rabbit dry and comfortable. Too many feces or wet feces can make your rabbit sick. Pine bedding or Timothy hay are the best types of bedding for your rabbit. Outdoor cages should be moveable so that you can move them to a place with fresh grass. You may need to put chicken wire under your outdoor cages as rabbits are well known for digging their way out.
Feeding and watering your pet rabbit
It is important that your rabbit gets a steady supply of the right amount of vitamin's and minerals which means a steady diet of vitamin enriched pellets, plus a variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds, salt lick and fresh clean water.
Housing your pet rabbit
Rabbits need fresh air and sunshine. There are many styles and types of housing for pet rabbits
Indoors
It is a good idea to have an indoor cage to keep your rabbit in at night or when you are away from home, to protect it from predators and to keep your rabbit from accidently ingesting houseplants that could be poisonous or getting into toxic chemicals by accident.
Outdoor
An outdoor cage that your rabbit can play in during the day is ideal playground for pet rabbits. If you have a pen without a cage bottom it is a good idea to stay outside with your rabbit while in this type of cage. (Keep in mind that rabbits love to dig and will quickly escape an outdoor pen that does not have a cage bottom).
Mineral blocks and Salt licks
Rabbits (especially indoor rabbits) need access to a salt lick. Most salt licks and wheels for rabbits contain high vitamin and mineral contents that rabbits need to stay healthy. Though they are called salt licks and salt wheels they are comprised mostly of vitamins and minerals that your rabbit needs.

Toe nail clippers
Rabbits who do not have the opportunity to play in the grass or scratch around digging holes will often get long toe nails which will need to be clipped above the quick (the blood line in the toe nail).
Pet grooming brush
Brushing your pet rabbits fur is a good way to interact with your pet rabbit, stimulates natural oils, reduces the amount of shedding fur left behind in cages, hutches or in your house, and is an enjoyable relaxing time for you and your pet rabbit.
Vet Care
Find a local veterinarian or livestock veterinarian who treats rabbits just in case your rabbit ever has an emergency and you may want to get your rabbit vaccinated to prevent the most common diseases rabbits get.
